Miami Hotel Tax Revenue Hits a Record High

With a record year in 2007, the hotel district in Miami, Oklahoma is continuing to see revenue climb.

As of March 31, 2008, the total rooms available in Miami were 295.  With the June 12th scheduled opening of the new Miami Hampton Inn, that number will jump to 369.  Two hotels are currently in construction and will add an additional 150 rooms to the official count.

According to Amanda Davis with the Miami CVB, the total rooms available in Miami will climb to more than 500 before the end of 2008.  “With the increase in hotel rooms, we are able to host major conferences and events that before were impossible”, says Davis.  In the past, the community of Miami has not had the rooms available that most groups require and could not be considered as a host city.”  Davis adds, “We are now in a position that allows us to compete with larger neighboring communities.”

Entertainment is another factor that plays into the hotel growth.  Davis added that just last weekend, two major events were taking place in Miami and hotel rooms were completely sold out.  “On April 18th, Miami was host to ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” live from the Buffalo Run Casino and NEO A&M College welcomed incoming freshman and their families into town for their annual Open House”, Davis said.  “Between those two events and the number of rooms being occupied by spoonbill fishermen, you could not find a room in town.”

In 2007, hotel revenue grew 12.5% in the City of Miami.  In the first quarter of 2008, a revenue increase of 18% was recorded.  Carl Haynes, Advisory Board member for the Miami CVB and General Manager of the Miami Microtel Inn is optimistic about the future of the Miami Hotel District.  “With events already scheduled through the end of July, we have numerous weekends that our hotels have already sold out this summer.  We are looking forward to and expecting another record season.”
